I didn't know Aunt Mella as well as I wish I would have, but she always showed me love and kindness when we got to see her. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. My regards and condolences to the rest of our family for the loss of such a wonderful person. You will always be missed. Our love to everyone from the Landwehr house.

She is truly the work of the LORD. I will forever carry the love she gave me in my heart. One of GODS Angels in human form. She taught me a lot on how to love because she was Pure LOVE itself. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/theneworleansadvocate/carmela-sofio-noto-condolences/184589425?cid=full#sthash.ebZILizq.dpuf

Aunt Mela was one of my favorite aunts with a beautiful, jovial spirit and a wonderful, generous, kind and loving soul. She would always tell me that she was praying for me and my family when I talked to her on the phone.
I remember spending a few weeks with her and my cousins in the summer when I was a young girl. Aunt Mela was a morning person and she would be up early working before daylight. She would stay busy all day. I would ask her to watch a movie on TV with me in the evening and she promised that she would when her work was done. Later we would sit on the floor with our backs against the sofa and start watching a movie. When a commercial came on, I noticed her eyes would be shut and I would say, "Aunt Mela, don't go to sleep." She would tell me she was just resting her eyes. I would be sure to tell her when the commercial was over and she would open her eyes to start watching it again. It wouldn't be long before she shut her eyes , but this time while the movie was playing and she was still assuring me that she was just resting her eyes. Not long after, I would hear snoring. We were never able to get through a complete movie; the TV just lured her to sleep every time, but she always made the effort to watch it. Through the years, I found myself using the same phrase-"I am just resting my eyes " with my own children and grandchildren. It really is a useful phrase.
I also remember during family gatherings when everyone had finished eating their meals, she would look around the table to see if anyone had not finished eating all the food on their plate. She would ask if they were done eating and she would make sure she ate anything left on their plate. She did not believe that food should be wasted. She grew up during hard times, so I am sure this is why she did not want food to go to waste.
I loved her and will miss her, but I look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

Mela was a great sister to me. She loved my children and my grandchildren. We always enjoyed and loved one another. She was always ready to help anyone that needed help and would tell us she was praying for us. I loved her and will miss her deeply. I will remember all the good times we spent together.

Many people do not know that Carmella began an acting and modeling career at the age of 88. My husband Patrick and I make films and take photographs. Carmella has been a family friend for decades, and we started photographing her just after Katrina when she lived in a FEMA trailer in front of her gutted out house. We kept photographing her, and in 2011, she starred in two of our movies. One of them, "Mrs. Carmella Prays" is an award-winning film and screened all over the world. It was an absolute pleasure to work with someone like Carmella. She had a wonderful sense of play, and her heart was so big. On a personal note, she prayed for my entire family two times every day; in the morning and the evening she spent an hour praying for everyone she knew (she had a list). And, just in case she forgot someone, she would always pray for the world and for peace. We love you, Carmella. We'll see you on the other side.
