Salvador Tramontana, 100 years old, beloved husband of the late Elaine Cazaux Tramontana for 68 years, died on September 26, 2017. Son of the late Rosalie Martorana Tramontana and Giuseppe Tramontana. Survived by his loving children Salvador Tramontana, Jr. (Susan), Lynette Tramontana Mills and David Tramontana (Soona). Grandfather of Taylor, Christy, Dawn, Cori, Jimmy, Chong and Tucson. Brother of Camille Voss , Mary Gilreath and Cornell , Rosario and Ralph Tramontana . In addition “Paw Paw” is survived by twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also survived by six nephews and ten nieces and his beloved caregivers: Andora (Dora) Collar and Terolyn (Sweet) Harrison. He is a 40-year retiree of the Southern Railway where he once served as president of the now defunct Switchmen’s Union. He was also a member of the boards for both Mirabeau and Prytania Private schools. He and Elaine were active in square dance circles serving on state and local boards and were members of Gold Dust Twirlers, the Red Hots and the Bobcats. From the first day of retirement until very near the end of his life he was actively into his life-long dream of building woodcrafts and actually gave away nearly as much as he sold.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Interment in Greenwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations may be made to the Jefferson Council on Aging to the Meals on Wheels Program.
