Gary Foy, weatherman extraordinaire, aficionado of fried seafood, accomplished cyclist, classic car enthusiast, and father figure to a gaggle of girls, died on Thursday, February 22, 2018.
Gary had scads of women in his life. He especially loved strong and smart women and surrounded himself with them. He was a quiet feminist. He adored his mom Neoma “Mamaw” Foy and always held a special place in his heart for his momma’s twin, Ruth Holland, and his favorite fiery redheaded niece, Chloe Daisy. His partner in time and main squeeze, Jeanne Smith, was his source of never ending love and support. He worshipped his daughters, Dawn, Wendy, Melissa (Tony), Jacqueline (Darren), and Heather. He taught them how to measure twice and cut once, to pick out the straightest 2x4’s, to love the outdoors, and to bake a bad ass pound cake. He took great pride in teaching them how to drive anything with a motor and in outfitting their toolboxes.
Gary excelled at being a crackerjack Papaw. He wore make up and ponytails for Molly and Libby and followed Summer as she cheered. He played babies with Riley, rode 4 wheelers with Kaden, and exemplified a good role model with B.B. guns and sawed off stocks with Ethan and Gabriel. He took extreme pride in his grandkids and was forever singing their praises.
The collector of dinosaur fossils will have his final visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home in New Orleans, Tuesday, February 27th at 5pm. His memorial service will begin at 8pm which will be led by family and friends. All are welcome to share stories or memories.
On a last, but more serious note, the man who was the lover of life and taught us all to laugh is now engulfed by the Universe. His love and arms will always surround and comfort us.
