Samuel Schwartz Sr.

Samuel Schwartz, Sr passed away on May 10, 2018 in Hammond, Louisiana at the young age of 88. Sam was a proud native of New Orleans, its arts and cultural heritage. He resided in the French Quarter for many years where he embraced life the fullest, as a savvy businessman, gifted portrait artist, trumpet and piano musician, radio show host, actor and member of two distinguished organizations, the Louisiana Board of Interior Designers and the Historic New Orleans Collection. Sam graduated from Fortier High School and attended Louisiana State University. He majored in pre-med but his love for music and stage was stronger than his attendance in class. Sam assembled a jazz band and played many venues in Louisiana. Because of his love for his country, he enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served with honor as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. Sam continued his trumpet and piano playing, assembling another jazz band with several of his fellow soldiers. He was an active, brilliant and creative thinker who loved to perform and to interweave humor into his daily life. Sam never officially retired as he continued painting everyday and consulting when opportunities arose. When talking to Sam, you would certainly hear, “everything is perfect.”
   Sam was the son of the late Harry Schwartz and Fannie Sterbcow. He is survived by his sons, Sam Jr and Harry Jacob, his daughter, Julie and his grandchildren, Alexandra and Kyle.
