It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Donnaud Taylor, Jr., announces his passing on January 7, 2019 at the age of 97 years old. He was formerly of Picayune, Mississippi. Robert was born in New Orleans on December 1, 1921 to the late Robert D. Taylor, Sr. and Gertrude Patterson Taylor.
On February 9, 1946 he married the love of his life Eva Zimmer in New Orleans, Louisiana. Robert was a World War II Marine and he was involved in the Invasion Beach Landings in the South Pacific. As a young man, Robert was quite the boxer and he worked as a Switchman for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was also an avid golfer and was named "Man of the Year" by the Bugger Golf Association in 1995. In addition, he loved playing cards with his friends and grandchildren and he was a lover of all animals, especially his own: "Little Dog." When it came to feeding "weenies" to the dogs in the neighborhood, he didn't miss a morning! Robert never met a stranger and as Eva always said, "He could sell a magazine subscription to a blind man."
Robert is survived by his daughter-in-law and caretaker, Althea Pinner Taylor; sister, Clare Taylor Pecarrere; three nieces, Eleanor P. Mouledoux, Paula P. Marsh, Simone P. Godshall; three nephews, John L. Pecarrere, Stephen Poynor, Robert D. Pecarrere; four grandchildren, Robert D. Taylor, IV (Andre’), Mike (Kerry), Kelly Savant (Kyle), and Michelle Haas (John); and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary “Eva” Zimmer Taylor; his two sons, Robert D. Taylor, III and Johnny Taylor; his sister, Audrey Taylor Poynor; and great-granddaughter, Kirby Taylor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on _Thursday, January 10, 2019, starting at 12:00 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at 1:00 PM in Greenwood Cemetery.
