Melvyn Anthony Clark

July 13, 1940 ~ November 8, 2018 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Melvyn “Mel” Anthony Clark, a native of New Orleans, left us Thursday, November 8, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Rose Marie Grillo Clark, his children Kim Woolf (John) and Marc Clark (Azita), sister Dolores Neller, and brother-in-law Stan Grillo. He was loved by many and touched so many lives in his 78 years. He set his own path in life with many accomplishments along the way. Kind, selfless, proud, and strong, Mel was his own man who followed no one. He entered the Local 406 Union operating heavy equipment after completing high school at McDonogh 36. He was involved in the construction of many of the city’s iconic structures such as the Super Dome and the Crescent City Connection. His love of automobiles led him to dabble in auto collecting, a van conversion business, motor cycle building and eventually for what he is know most - the limousine transportation business (LIMOUSINE LIVERY). During his brief employment at the Fairmont Hotel as a doorman, he encountered the kindness of Frank Chifici, who gave him the opportunity to own his first limousine. From there in 1984, Mel was responsible for initiating the ground work for many of today’s transportation companies to exist by forcing the city to lift a moratorium and issue operating licenses for an industry that was extremely limited. He was known as a leader in the industry inspiring the legalization of sedans, changing local legal industry codes to be fair to all instead of a selected few, and setting the standard of true luxury transportation. Mel helped others enter the transportation business, was even given a limousine and a Rolls Royce from endearing customers. MAY HE BE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER !!! . In lieu of flowers the family request donations in his memory to New Orleans Second Harvest or Bridge House.
