Meade Patrick “Rick” Kelly, Jr., joined our Lord and his loving parents on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Rick was born January 20, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ruby and Meade Kelly. He graduated from De La Salle High School and then went on to study and graduate from the University of New Orleans, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. His work in sales with London Fog saw him travel extensively, and took him and his family to live in Dallas, Texas. However, as a life-long New Orleanian, he and his wife, Lyn, moved back in 2006.
Rick thrived in the flare of life. His friends and family experienced his ever-present sense of humor through his stories—and he had a story for every occasion. His true joy lied in his passion for music. Rick was always listening to music, and was dedicated to his family’s music education and understanding of “speaker quality.”
Later in life, Rick volunteered his time and efforts with Teen Challenge and his church, Lakeview Christian Center, and he looked forward to his weekly men’s Bible study group. In retirement, he enjoyed his burgeoning career as an “extra” actor and was a devoted “Pops” to his three grandchildren.
Beloved by all who knew him, Rick is survived by his wife, Lyn; his sister Kerry and brother-in-law Gary; his son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Leigh; his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and John Nicholson; his grandchildren, Will, Sophie, and Adeline; and his “pooch,” Charlie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at 9 AM at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Monday, May 16, 2022. Visitation will begin at 9 AM, and continue until the memorial service at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Louisiana Teen Challenge (www.louisianateenchallenge.com/giving) and Lakeview Christian Center (www.lakeviewchristiancenter.com/give).
