Martha Evelyn Bardwell CHAPLAIN

Martha Evelyn Bardwell Chaplain, age 90, of New Orleans passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9th, 2018, after surviving a cancer diagnosis four years prior. Martha was born on December 14, 1927, in Jackson, MS, to Clovis Evon and Bessie Jennie (Smith) Bardwell. After attending Central High School, she became a Registered Nurse at Rush Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. As a nursing student, Martha trained at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and after graduation was employed at Ochsner Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, and at Baptist Hospital where she eventually retired.
Martha, a/k/a “MawMaw”, was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Frederick Louis Chaplain Sr. She used every moment of her free time in retirement enjoying watercolor painting, ceramics, genealogy, crocheting, and creating beautiful Brazilian embroidery pieces. She is survived by her children, Victoria “Vicki” Love, Margaret “Micki” (Winston) Fontenot, Frederick “Rick”, Daniel “Craig”, Peggy Dunn, David, and Martha “Linda”. Martha was predeceased by her sister Christine, brothers Clovis “Junior” and Solomon “Dick”, son-in-law Timothy Love, daughter-in-law Carrie Michel Chaplain, and son Patrick “Paddy Mac”. She was the loving grandmother of Jonathan, Jacob and Joshua Fontenot, Elizabeth (Randy) Eveland, Benjamin (Katie) Love, Jennifer (Matthew) Tannery, Kathleen (Ryan) Lilkendey, Sally Cuccia, Caroline (George) Gruber, Frederick III, Colin (Andrew) Minster, Michael (Christina) Dunn, April (Wes) Carr, Joel (Chance) Dunn, Shayna Dunn, Seth Dunn, Kyle (Jamie) Chaplain, Ryan (Sarah), Natalie Jones, Claudia Chaplain and Oliver Chaplain. She also had numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family that loved her and will miss her, as well as many dear friends at Lakeview Shepherd Senior Center.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Visitation from 9:00-11:00 am, followed by a Eulogy and Mass at 11:00 am, on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
