Tribute

Marguerite “Margo” Matthews Daboval Goertz, 89, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on November 11, 2021. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family.
Margo was born in Rayne, Louisiana, daughter of Emile “Milo” and Jane Eddy Daboval. A graduate of Rayne High School in 1950, Margo also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1954. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Jackets, the university’s pep squad, even as an alum. After graduating from college, Margo married Harold T. Goertz Jr. of New Orleans, Louisiana on June 19, 1954. Harold served active duty in the Air Force, which took them to Belleville, Illinois and Okinawa, before returning to New Orleans to raise their family. In 1973, they moved to Houston where Margo worked in retail management. After Harold’s retirement from Shell Oil, they moved back to Margo’s childhood home in Rayne, Louisiana. Margo and Harold hosted many family gatherings and Easter crawfish boils at their home. She was a member and active volunteer of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Margo eventually returned to Houston where she spent the rest of her life, making memories with her children and grandchildren, while residing at Eagles Trace/Bayou Vista. Margo’s life revolved around her family whom she dearly loved.
She will be deeply missed by her family: her daughters, Beverly Fussell (Johnny), Willis, TX; Kathy Bassemier,(David) Harahan, LA; Patricia Gebhart (Jim), Houston, TX; Mary Ann Scheet (Ron), Katy, TX; her son, Harold T. Goertz III (Kirsten), Haymarket, VA. Her loss will be felt by her grandchildren: Erin Brown (Brandon), Eric Vinterella, Allison Gilbert (Charlie), Melissa Bassemier, Michael Bassemier (Kortney), Carol Ann Gebhart, Jennifer Schuck (Brad), Dr. Haley Goertz, Harrison Goertz and Hayden Goertz. Margo also has six, adoring great-grandchildren: Chloe, Millie, Kayleigh, Presley, Tripp, and Emma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, Emile and Jane Daboval, and brother, Emile Daboval.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Bayou Vista for the loving care they showed their mother.
Margo’s faith in God and love for her family will leave a legacy for generations to come. They take comfort in knowing they will one day be reunited. The family welcomes you to join us for this celebration of Margo’s life.
