Madalena DeSalvo Zuppardo passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on January 4, 2019. Madalena was born on October 17, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of New Orleans until she moved to the North Shore in 2010. She was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Church, until displaced by Katrina and remained devoted to her practice of daily mass and daily rosary throughout her life. Madalen was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Zuppardo; her parents, Peter & Conchetta DeSalvo; her brother Salvador DeSalvo; and her sister Josephine Dimitri. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Kévin Byrne; and her four beloved grandchildren, Meghan Byrne, Kathryn Byrne, Cameron Byrne, and Mason Byrne. She is also survived by her siblings Grazio (Josephine) DeSalvo, Mary Grace DeSalvo, Peter (Ana) DeSalvo; and many treasured nieces, nephews and friends. Madalen was the center of family life, a great cook, and host of countless Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations. She was a caregiver to many, and a prayer warrior to all in need. Services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be on Monday, January 7, 2019, from 11:00A.M. - 1:00 P.M., followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Madalen’s life with a meal of her legendary meatballs & spaghetti at her daughter’s home following services.
