Louise Lae Doherty

Preceded in death by her husband James Edward Doherty (1924-1978), and son-in-law Larry Joseph Terito (1950-2003).
Survived by one daughter, Jan Doherty Terito (Larry). Grandchildren: Nicholas James Terito (Erica), and Renee Terito Frederick (Rob). Greatgrandchildren: Hope, Joseph, Alayna Frederick, and Emily Terito.
Born and raised in New Orleans where she met Jim, the love of her life. They married in 1950 and shared the most beautiful and loving marriage until he was taken from her too soon in 1978.
At age 70 she retired from Smith Kline where she formed several lifelong friendships and made many lasting memories. At 80 she moved to Baton Rouge to be closer to her family and this allowed her to spend much quality time with her great grandchildren. During this time she met the most amazing group of ladies in the “Knit Wits Christian Ladies Knitting Group”. She formed such a bond with these ladies and became involved with community service as they knitted items for the homeless shelters and the NICU.
When Weeze turned 90 she moved into Magnolia Assisted Living where she thrived. She loved socializing with all of the residents, enjoying bingo, crafts, lunch outings, and festivities for every holiday. She received the most wonderful care at Magnolia and for that we are forever grateful.
Weeze lived life to the fullest. Travel was always one of her greatest desires and she took many beautiful trips through the years with friends and family. She saw much of the country and even made a trip to Rome. There was an infamous trip to Vegas, but some of her fondest memories were the family trips to Gulf Shores.
Weeze loved life and she loved people. She never let life get her down, and always found a way to overcome whatever hand life dealt her. She loved her family and all the wonderful friends who felt like family. There are so many nieces, nephews, and friends that she was so close to, and she embraced them all as her own. But her greatest love and most treasured blessings were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always felt so much love and pride for each one of them. She felt so blessed to be so much a part of their lives. She was always there for them through both trials and triumphs, and she was happiest to be called Grandma and GG.
Loving, caring, outspoken, determined, a survivor. She leaves this world having lived a full life and leaving so many of us with “Weeze memories”.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
