Katherine "Kathy" Burckel Mehaffey

Katherine "Kathy" Burckel Mehaffey was embraced into eternal delight while surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 9:15am. Kathy dedicated her life to God and family. She was a woman who studiously maintained a curious nature, and embraced intellectual thought and conversation. She encouraged, led, and actively participated in the People of Praise Christian Community for 41 years and in the parish of St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for 38 years. Kathy was a homemaker, educator, author, interior designer, artist, mom, confidante, and sister to many. She always had encouraging words, quick witted comments, or thoughtful wisdom to share. She was born in New Orleans, graduated from Mandeville High in 1970 and obtained her undergraduate degree from Southeastern University in 1973. Her immense love of learning led her to later graduate from UNO with a masters degree, and Delgado Community College with an Interior Design Degree.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Lloyd, her children, Danny (Christina), Kathleen (Ben), Stacy (Earl), Emily (Jeff), Shannon (Joe), and Megan, her siblings, Floyd (Virginia), Janet (Glen), Peggy (Steve), David (Judy), and Julie, and her grandchildren, Madeline, Justin, Gabriel, Audrey, Brendan, Anne Marie, Emma, Adley, Luke, Dominic, Roy, Caleb, and Colette. In heaven, she reunites with her parents, Floyd and Vera Burckel, parents-in-law, William C and Mary Jane Mehaffey, and three grandchildren.

Her family will hold an open celebration of Kathy's life on Friday, July 29th, 2022 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM in the Barrett Complex at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, LA. A visitation will be held at St Catherine of Siena Church on Saturday, July 30th, 2022, starting at 10:30 AM, with words of remembrance at 11:45 AM, followed by a Mass at 12:00 PM.
