Joseph Black Hughey Jr, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughter’s Metairie home on October 28, 2021. Known also as Dad, Daddy, Pops, Uncle Joe, Grandpa, PaPa, Paw Joe, Nitro, and Monkey Joe, he was born on August 29,1942 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Joseph B Hughey, and Elise Alleman Hughey. He is survived by his four daughters, Camille Ragas (Lyle), Julie Montgomery (Jay), Jenny Hughey (Joseph Duzac Jr), Danielle Milton (Terry), and two sons, Corey and Chance, Grandchildren, Brett, Andrew, Jewel, Devin and Jadyn, Great grandchildren Asher and Aspyn. He is also survived by four sisters, Edna Marie Sevin, Sister Camille Anne Campbell O’Carm, Lisette Borné (Dan) and Laura Chaisson (Rusty) and
two Goddaughters Erin Piper and Jacie Shreve. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by two beloved pups Dexter and Max and survived by his other two beloved pups, Blackie & Joby who were by his side.
He has a large extended family and lifelong friends who also meant so much to him.
He was a graduate of Thibodaux College and served in US Navy during the Vietnam War.
He later retired from Freeport McMoran then worked at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans with his sister from 1995-2004. He then worked closely with his daughter at Full Circle in Metairie until he finally retired when Covid 19 hit.
Luckily for his children’s sake he had a great taste in music. Pink Floyd being his absolute favorite band of all time.
Visitation will be at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Avenue, Gretna, LA 70053, on Saturday November 13th, 2021 from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM with mass immediately to follow.
He will be laid to rest at a later time in Jackson, Mississippi, next to his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his honor.
