John Calvin Freese, Jr. passed away at his home in New Orleans on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the age of 73. John was born on February 8, 1945 in Denver, CO to the late John Freese, Sr. and Alberta Romero Freese. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary St. Mard Freese; a brother, Robert Freese; and a sister, Mary Westall. John is survived by 6 sisters, Anna Hilleary of Mission, KS; Elizabeth Watkins of Columbia, MO; Lorry Carney of Lakewood, WA; Barbara Tomlinson of Overland Park, KS; Joy Chibnall of St. Louis, MO; and Sylvia Freese of Columbia, MO; 4 brothers, Albert Freese of Seal Beach, CA; Wade Freese of Gonzales, LA; Ted Freese of Lenexa, KS; and David Freese of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He attended UNO and graduated from Bishop Miege High School, Roeland Park, KS. John was the Secretary Treasurer at the Fireman's Charitable & Benevolent Association (FCBA) for 51 years. He was a Certified Cemetery Executive and previously the President of both the Louisiana Cemetery Association and Southern Cemetery Association. John taught music for many years and was always looking for the next generation electronic gadget.
John was a dedicated caregiver for many family members, providing them comfort and care when most needed.
Special thanks to friend, Michelle, and Compassus Hospice for their care of John.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121.
