Tribute

Joachim Anthony Rochon was born January 22, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Francis D. Rochon and Gloria Davis Rochon. He departed this life on March 16, 2023, at home with his loving family. He had been first diagnosed with colon cancer in 2018, and fought a long and courageous battle against this disease. He was 69 years old at the time of his passing. Mr. Rochon was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He spent his childhood years growing up with his older brothers Francis Rochon III and Noel Rochon in the 7th ward. He attended Epiphany Elementary School and was a proud member of the St. Augustine High School Marching 100 band (Class of ‘72). He then completed a BS in business at the University of New Orleans (Class of ‘76) and an associates degree from Delgado Community College. Mr. Rochon then pursued a career in city government and was employed by the City of New Orleans under the Sidney Barthelemy administration. In later years, he developed an interest in travel and visiting countries such as the Philippines. He started corresponding via a pen pal service to his future wife Dr. Lilibeth Cagampang. After many letters, and transcending a distance of thousands of miles, Joachim and Lilibeth got married in New Orleans and spent 34 loving years together. Together, they had two (2) children Gabriel Cagampang Rochon and Celine Cagampang Rochon. Besides being a devoted husband and father, Mr. Rochon was a runner, musician, bicyclist, and photographer. He finished 5 marathons and a plethora of 5k races and bike tours. He had a great love for playing trombone and was a dedicated member of the Post 350 American Legion Band. Like his mother the late Gloria Rochon, he was an artist, not with a paint brush but with a camera. He was a man of the arts who created his own documentaries and appreciated works of Ansel Adams, Kenneth Burns, Van Gogh, and original New Orleans themed paintings from his mother and late uncle Martin Davis Jr. Additionally, Mr. Rochon was a man of faith and was an active parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. His survivors include; two (2) brothers Francis III and Noel Rochon, wife Lilibeth Cagampang Rochon, two (2) children Gabriel and Celine Rochon, one (1) daughter-in-law Shana Sheppard Rochon and a host of friends and relatives including cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass and Visitation at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Pl, New Orleans on Saturday, April 1, 2023, Mass at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Louis #3 Cemetery and Repast at Holy Spirit Catholic Church Life Center.
