It is with sadness that we announce Jewel Burrows McDowell at the age of 92 has taken her final curtain call. Jewel was a performer since the age of 5 years old. Throughout her lifetime she graced the stage, as an actress, in many theaters in the city of New Orleans: Gallery Circle Theater, Le Petit Theatre, UNO theater, and the Bayou Dinner Theater.
She was also a teacher who specialized in Speech/Drama and English and shared her knowledge and talents at a variety of Catholic and public High Schools in Orleans Parish.
She is survived by her three daughters Kathy Taaffe, Laurie Taaffe, and Sybil Taaffe French and her grandchildren Nicole, Carmel, and Bennet and her great grandchildren Evan and Caleb. Her surviving siblings are William Burrows and Barbara Galvin. Nieces and nephews include Shane, Alaina, and Delila.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Friday, January 18, 2019, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 PM in Greenwood Cemetery.
