Janet Waffenschmidt McNamara

Janet Waffenschmidt McNamara passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021, at the age of 83. Janet was a New Orleans native and graduated from Alcée Fortier High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Henry Dansereau McNamara, Jr., in 1958.

While raising her four children in Metairie, she obtained her Interior Design Degree from Delgado Community College, after which she started her design business, Acadian Interiors. After retirement, Janet and Henry relocated to their farm in Folsom, La., where her life-long love of animals continued with breeding and racing thoroughbred horses. Janet continued her passion for the arts with many painting, pencil and pottery projects.

Janet treasured her time with her bridge ladies, and her daily laughter filled talks with her sister, Betty.  She loved Mardi Gras, luncheons with her friends, and summers in Grand Isle.  Her energy shined through as a devout Catholic, loving wife, compassionate friend and loving mother.

Janet is reunited with her parents, Evelyn and Edward Waffenschmidt, her sister, Betty McCloskey, and her beloved husband, Henry D. McNamara, Jr., all who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Brian, Kerry, Lynn (Chris), and Kelly (Charlie), her grandchildren, Justin, Shelby, Aubrey, and Michael.

The family would like to thank Tia and Bernadette for the love and compassion they showed mom daily, and the staff at the Claiborne and St. Joseph’s Hospice. A private visitation will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2021, followed by a graveside service for family and friends at Greenwood Cemetery at 11:15AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Aphasia Foundation or Catholic Charities of New Orleans.
