On Saturday, January 19, 2019, Hal Reid Collums, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 66.
Hal was born in Columbus, Mississippi to Curtis and Kathleen Collums.
Hal had a passion for New Orleans architecture and historic renovations. He was the founder and owner of Collums Construction Company and Central City Millworks. Hal contributed to the building and restoration of projects across the city, including the National World War II Museum, the Saenger Theatre, the Ursuline Convent, and Galatoire’s 33. His unparalleled attention to detail and dedication to his craft earned him the American Institute of Architect’s Award of Merit and a Historic District Landmarks Commission Award, among other honors.
On November 22, 1978 he married Paula Guizerix. They raised two children, Leah and Hal Reid, Jr. He is survived by his wife, his children, their spouses Darryl Glade and Camille Balsamo-Gillis, his grandchildren Curtis and Alice Glade, brother Carl Collums and wife Carol, brother Larry Collums, and many, many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 11 AM with a 10 AM visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1230 S Carrollton Ave., New Orleans.
