Edwin Lee Mowe

Edwin Lee Mowe, Jr. passed into the hands of our Lord on January 9, 2018 at the age of 93 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Lee was born in New Orleans on October 14, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Zehner Mowe and E. Lee Mowe, Sr., and his beloved wife Astrid Vignes Mowe. He is survived by four grateful children- E. Lee Mowe, lll (Bonnie) of Madisonville, Karen Mowe McDaniel (Danny) of Huntsville, TX, Adrienne Mowe of McComb, MS and Christian K. Mowe (Dana) of Houston. Also survived by grandchildren Kenneth Mowe (Megan), Jamie McDaniel, Austin McDaniel, Lillian C. Mowe and one great-grandchild, Grace E. Mowe. He is a graduate of Warren Easton High School and Tulane University. He was wounded during World War II in Europe while serving as an infantryman in Co. B, 1st Bn, 393 Reg, 99th Infantry Division. He survived the Battle of the Bulge as one of the 29 survivors out of 180 men in his company. He was awarded a CIB, purple heart and bronze star among other medals. He loved his God, his family and his country and was in every sense of the word a true gentleman. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Kosmos Lodge of the Masonic Order. Lee had a long, distinguished career in insurance, most of it with General Accident Insurance Company. He made many friends throughout the industry and is fondly remembered by those who worked with and for him. He and Astrid traveled extensively during their retirement. He was a long-time member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Metairie and attended Madisonville Presbyterian Church until he was no longer able. His last ten years were spent at Brookdale Senior Living in Mandeville where he continued his helpful, friendly and kind ways. The family sincerely thanks the staff at Brookdale for their love, kindness, compassion, and care. They made it truly his happy home during his last years. The family also thanks Passages Hospice for their compassionate assistance toward the end. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the Alzheimer’s Ass’n, Wounded Warriors or similar veterans group or John Calvin Presbyterian Church (4201 Transcontinental Dr, Metairie, 70006).
The memorial service will be at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans on Monday, January 15, 2018. Visitation begins at 11:30 am, service at 1:00pm.
