Edmond Joseph Langhetee Jr.

Edmond Joseph Langhetee, Jr. passed away with his loving wife by his side on January 17, 2022, at the age of 93. Ed was born in1928 to Edmond Joseph Langhetee, Sr. and Hilda Dureau Langhetee. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Rosalie D’Amico Langhetee. Survivors also include his children, Edmond Joseph Langhetee, III (Mary Ann), Leslie M. Langhetee, Jeanne Langhetee Wolff (Todd), and Russell Louis Langhetee (Sara), as well as grandchildren, Michelle Langhetee, Laura Langhetee (Jeff Karlik), Jeffrey Langhetee (Diana), Katie Calogero (Matthew Hupman), Chrissy Calogero (Brian Keating), Jessica Wolff (Alex Brueder), Stephanie Wolff (Alex Galliano), Derrick Langhetee (Karrie) and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and his son-in-law, Pascal F. Calogero, Jr. Ed was born and raised in New Orleans and attended Warren Easton High School, where he played the cornet in the school band. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, he headed to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He became and was forever a devoted Tiger fan. It was there, his freshman year, that he met the love of his life, Rosie. Ed graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering. His career path began immediately following graduation when he joined The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company in 1949 as a petroleum engineer. He was appointed Chief Petroleum Engineer in 1953. In 1965, he attended Columbia University School of Business in the Management Development Program. Ed was instrumental in LL&E’s decision to form the offshore exploration and production subsidiary, Louisiana Land Offshore Exploration Company, of which he was the Chairman, President, and Director. In 1974, Ed was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of LL&E and was instrumental in the company’s acquisition of one of the largest copper and gold mines in the United States through the Copper Range Company which became an LL&E subsidiary. During his tenure at LL&E, he was also the Chairman of the Board, Director and President of Kaluakoi Corporation, as well as, President and Director of Jacintoport Corporation. Ed retired from LL&E in 1982 and started his own consulting business, Elcon Corporation. He was shortly thereafter elected Chairman of the Board of American Completion and Development Corporation. Following his resignation from American Completion in 1985, he was appointed Advisor to the Office of President of Online Resource Exchange, Inc., a company which maintained a nationwide computerized exchange for the acquisition or divesture of oil and gas reserves. One of his proudest career moments was when he was named to the LSU College of Engineering Hall of Distinction in 1986. In accepting this honor, he attributed much of his success to his “educational background and engineering training at LSU.” In addition to these career achievements, Ed was a member and on the board of many community organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, The Chamber Legal Center, The Petroleum Club of New Orleans (President 1979), The LSU Foundation, Pi Epsilon Tau Fraternity, and The Society of Petroleum Engineers. Ed was a U.S. Naval reserve Officer from 1950-1963. When not busy with his career, Ed’s relaxing pastimes centered around golf. He and Rosie could often be found on the golf course on Sunday afternoons, and they traveled to and played various golf courses all over the United States. If he wasn’t playing, he was watching or reading about golf. Ed was the oldest active golfer at his club when he stopped playing. But, no doubt, his greatest joy was his family. He led his family by example, married to his college sweetheart for over 72 years. He worked hard to provide the best for his family and, in doing so, he instilled strong values and life lessons in his children, emphasizing the importance of responsibility, self-sufficiency, honesty and hard work – a job worth doing was worth doing right. Ed understood the importance of education and fostered that in his children and grandchildren with generous support and educational opportunities, like family trips all over the world. Family was his cornerstone. He never missed a baptism, graduation or wedding no matter where it was, and his family always gathered together for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. His family was his greatest pride, his legacy, and his lasting accomplishment. The family wishes to give special thanks to his caregivers Renee and Kiesha for their loving care and to Ed’s neighbors Tom and Suzanne who are always there when needed. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass celebrating Ed’s life at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
