Tribute

Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Charles Edmond Cabibi, Jr., passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by Merle Alt Cabibi, who he was married to for 61 years. He was born on February 14, 1939, to Dorothy McWaters Cabibi and Charles E. Cabibi, both deceased. He attended P. A. Capdua Grammer School and graduated from St. Aloysius High School, now known as Brother Martin High School in 1956 and from Loyola Law School in 1962. He and his father practiced law together until his father passed away in 1993. He loved his family and enjoyed family functions, and the Carnival Season. He had been a member of several carnival organizations over the years, namely, Virgilians, Endymion, Ancient Scribes, Pegasus and Pontchartrain. He was a duke in Elenian, Pegasus and twice in Les Marionettes, and king in Les Marionettes and Ancient Scribes. He was also a member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity (serving as treasurer), St. Thomas More Lawyers Association, Louisiana Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, Jefferson Parish Bar Association, New Orleans Notary Public Association, the International Club of Loyola, Louisiana Land Title Association (serving as President for one year and as Secretary/Treasurer for many years), He was a Type I Juvenile Diabetes miracle, having been diagnosed at age 7, and was one of the two oldest survivors. He received honors from Joslin and the American Diabetes Association for this amazing accomplishment. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Bird (Gary) and Sheila Monzon (Frank), his grandchildren, Jessica Monzon Ryan (Patrick), Geoffrey M. Bird (Jenna), and Victoria Monzon Bourgeois (Nicholas), and eight great-grandchildren, Shawn Ryan, III., Charles Ryan, Henry Ryan, Kathleen Bird, Grant Bird, twins, Camille and Jackson Bird, and Thomas Bourgeois. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and will continue until Mass time. Condolences may be expressed at www.greenwoodfh.com.
