July 20, 1920 ~ March 12, 2018 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tribute

Bernadette “Bernie” Dwyer Iverson was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend who was loved, is missed, and will always be remembered. She peacefully entered into eternal rest at her residence, surrounded by her family, on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the incredible age of 97.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass and a Memorial Service to celebrate her life. The Funeral Mass will take place at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, March 16 at 1:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. The Memorial Service, led by Deacon Phil Lizotte, will take place at The Blake, 400 Polly Lane, Lafayette, LA, 70508 on Thursday, March 22 at 10:00 AM.
She was born July 20, 1920 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Blanche and Richard Dwyer. She was one of eight children, but was especially known for being one of three sets of twins. Bernadette married her love, Clyde Iverson, Sr., on October 9, 1954; Clyde cleared a path for Bernadette journey to heaven in 2002, and we know he is waiting for her with incredible pride for how she has lived her life. She loved her four children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren immensely, and was referred to as “Mimi” by many. During her early life in the Crescent City, she graduated from Henry W. Allen High School, where she was a tennis champion. She attended Loyola University, becoming the first female accountant for Esso. After raising her four children, she worked at the University of New Orleans for 16 years, eventually retiring with Clyde in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Bernadette was a devout Catholic who was active in organizations such as the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Diamondhead Newcomers Club. While she was a volunteer at heart, she was well known for her ruthlessness in the bowling alley and at the card table. Her children and friends tell stories of her bowling score nearing 300 often, but it’s her grandchildren who still hold onto memories of losing at “go fish.”
Those who will miss her until they meet again are her four adoring children and their spouses, Ellis Iverson (Michelle), Barbara Ward (Ed), Mari McCarron (Dr. Kenneth), and Yvonne Keegan (Patrick); her eight grandchildren, Laura Iverson, Edward Ward Jr., Lenna Ward, Dr. Ross McCarron (Aimee), Meaghan Savoy (Chris), Michael Ryan McCarron, Margaret McCarron, and Joshua Keegan; and her dear friend, Rose Espinosa (Mario). She will also be missed by her many friends in New Orleans, Diamondhead, MS, Austin, TX (where she lived 10 years after Katrina) and Lafayette. Her family is appreciative of the personal and loving touch provided by those from Right at Home, Hospice of Acadiana and The Blake. Specifically, her family has sincere appreciation for Rubellen Ferreras, who loved and cared for Bernadette like a family member.
In lieu of flowers, her family respectfully ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/Bernadette_Dwyer_Iverson in memory of Bernadette Dwyer Iverson or Hospice of Acadiana.
