Barbara Anne McDowell Barrios passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She was born July 1, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Harley Ray and Rosalie McDowell. She met and married the love of her life Phillip Barrios and moved to St. Bernard Parish where they raised their three children, Phillip Barrios, Jr. (Kelly), Robyn Barrios (David) and April Hagadone (Dale). She relocated to Destrehan, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina with her family. Barbara retired from the Louisiana Office of Family Support after 30 years of service. She began her second career at the National Finance Center and eventually retired from there as well. She is a former member of the St. Bernard Parish Business and Professional Women’s Association, the State Employee Retiree Association and the Louisiana State Eligibility Supervisor’s Association. Barbara was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Chalmette until 2005 and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan until Frontotemporal Dementia prevented her from participating. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her sisters, Linda McDowell, Theresa Ulicsni (Brian) and brother, Tommy McDowell (Regina). Barbara’s great joy in her life were her grandchildren, Madelyn, Maya, Landyn, Olivia, Addison and Dominick. She also enjoyed her many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans on Thursday, September 9th. Visitation begins at noon followed by Mass at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Barbara to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org or send checks to 225 N.
