Audrey Abadie “Honey” Brechtel

Audrey Abadie “Honey” Brechtel passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Sheldon F. Brechtel, Sr. Mother of Jerry Brechtel (Maria), Skip Brechtel (Patti), Bill Brechtel (Karen) and Joy Spansel (Mark). Grandmother of Ben, Kelly, Brad, Shelly, Laura, Jack, Kyle, Jeff, Erik, Alison, Kate, Mary and Brett. Sister of Bill Abadie (Gloria) and the late Ben Abadie, Jackie Abadie and Charles Abadie. Daughter of the late Bernard Eugene Abadie and Hilda Johnson Abadie. She is also survived by 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey’s full time devotion was to her family. She was a great wife, a loving mother to four wonderful children, an adored mother-in-law and grandmother, and a “stepmother” to hundreds of others over the years. She attended Mass daily and was a fierce prayer warrior for her family and any prayer request that was put before her. Honey’s favorite hobby was painting and giving ceramics to friends and family. Her long list included her favorite butcher at Dorignacs as well as her doctors, her nurses, her bank teller and many others. She also loved attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, gardening, and simply spending time with her loved ones. She was quick to proclaim that she was from New Orleans, and she spent her Sundays in the fall cheering on the Saints. Honey was warm and outgoing and enjoyed striking conversations with and getting to know everyone she encountered.
Her family has sincere appreciation for Hilda Magee, Carla Pierre, Mary Baker, Melvina Jackson, Jocelyn Harris, Pam Zacharie and Claudette Brown, who loved and cared for her like a family member.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, 923 Josephine Street (near Constance Street), New Orleans, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM.
