Welcome to the memorial page for

Ann Marie LeBlanc Conner

May 13, 1929 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 88)
Ann Marie LeBlanc Conner was born on May 31, 1929. As she prepared to enter first
grade, her plans were interrupted by her being run over by a car when
she was 5 1/2 years old. She was unconscious for over a month after
suffering a fractured skull and a crushed collar bone in her right arm.
She was always a fighter, but after several surgeries, she never
recovered the use of her right arm. Undaunted, she was a wonderful
student at St. Anthony Grade School and Saint Joseph Academy. After
high school graduation, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, as her
handicap did not seem to hinder any of her activity. She received her
B.A. from Loyola University in New Orleans, and taught for quite a
number of years in elementary and high schools. She was a good Sister of
St. Joseph and a wonderful teacher.
When she was about 36 years old, Ann Marie decided to leave the Sisters
of St. Joseph and became a teacher in the New Orleans public school
system. She met Jim Conner at a gathering of single Catholics, and they
got engaged and married on her birthday in 1968. Their son Jimmy was
born. Jim was a research chemist for the government, and gained a number
of patents in his line of expertise. After Jim retired, the family
traveled all over the United States and Canada in their motorhome. Jim
died suddenly in 1993, and Ann Marie and Jimmy continued to live in
their Metairie home. In later years, Ann Marie’s health declined, and
Jimmy was very attentive until her death on August 7, 2017.
Jim always considered Ann Marie as a Godsend after the death of his
first wife. Ann Marie was also a very loving person who helped her
neighbors as much as she could. She was very religious, attending daily
Mass whenever possible, and was an avid reader of the Bible. The love of
Ann Marie and her son was very visible in their day to day lives. As Ann
Marie grew older, Jimmy was a wonderful caregiver.
Ann Marie was preceded in death by her two brothers, Al LeBlanc and
Billy LeBlanc, and by one sister, Theresa LeBlanc Terrio. Ann Marie is
survived by her son, Jimmy Conner, and by two of her siblings, Dorothy
LeBlanc and Kitty LeBlanc, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1:30 PM. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM. To sign the on line guest register, please visit
