Nancy Evans Muth died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 15th, 2017, due to a brief battle with cancer. Nancy was born in Chicago, IL, March 5, 1937, of the late Roy T. and Aleen Grunwald Evans. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, the Rev. Donald C. Muth, sons Paul (Jennifer) and Philip (Jessica), daughter Katie Sunseri, grandchildren Chase Rogers (Kelsey), Bridget Rogers, Andrew Muth, and nephew Scott McCrea (Terrie). Nancy was preceded in death by her daughter Anne Rogers. She graduated from Northwestern School of Nursing in Evanston, IL, in 1957 and practiced nursing off and on for fifty years.
Nancy was involved in many religious and civic organizations where her husband served in Louisiana (Lafayette, Abbeville, New Orleans, Metairie), Chicago (Clarendon Hills), and briefly in England. While living in Clarendon Hills she was an active member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church and the League of Women Voters. After moving to Metairie, Nancy served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and on the board of Country Club Home gardeners. She was a member of the “Beaded Babies” Red Hat group and “Sit-N-Stitch” group. Although she moved to Metairie over 30 years ago she never lost her love for her hometown of Chicago. A drive down Lake Shore Drive always brought a tear to her eye. Nancy loved cooking, handicrafts, playing cards, collecting antiques and traveling. She most loved sharing a glass of wine and lively conversation in the company of good friends and family.
The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd., New Orleans on Friday, November 3rd at 10:30am with visitation starting at 9:30 am. Private interment will precede the service at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Paul’s Memorial Fund or Louisiana Hospice of New Orleans are preferred.
