Marie Scaffidi McDonald peacefully departed this life on Friday, February 16, 2018 at home surrounded by her family, at the age of 92. Born on December 15, 1925, Marie was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans. A most loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, she was completely devoted to her family; that love only surpassed by her love of God. She will be forever cherished and remembered by her devoted husband, Ellis L. McDonald; daughters, Elizabeth A. McDonald MD and Diane M. Hudson (Jerry); granddaughter, Elise Marie McDonald; brother, Joseph S. Scaffidi (Jocelyn) and many loving friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rose Riso Scaffidi and Natale Scaffidi and brother Anthony J. Scaffidi.
Marie graduated from John McDonogh Senior High School, where enjoyed and excelled in track and field. She worked at D.H. Holmes on Canal street during and after WWII. She sold war bonds as an effort on the home front. She returned to work for the City of New Orleans as clerk of recorder of mortgages and retired after 20 yrs in 1988. Marie will be remembered as incredibly generous and caring, who gave selflessly, putting others needs before her own. She will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation from 11:00am-1:00pm and Catholic mass at 1:00pm. Interment will be on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Greenwood cemetery at 1:00pm.
