Maria Hurst Mejia passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2018, at the age of 89. Maria was a native of San Juancito, Honduras and was a resident of New Orleans for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred L. Hurst and Isabel A. Hurst; previous husbands, Lucas Moncada, Stanley Morlier, Sr. and Rodolfo “Fito” Mejia; and her siblings, Alfred, Adam, Noe, Roy, Eva and Annie. Maria is survived by her children, May Weddle (Chepe), Lorena Liuzza (Lucrecia), Maria Moret (Barry) and Stanley Morlier, Jr. (Michelle); her grandchildren, Maurico, Lester, Derek, Peggy, Stephanie, Roy, Michelle, Elizabeth, Dante’, Bria, Stanley, III and Caleb; one brother, James “Jimmy” Hurst; and her lifelong friend, Sylvia White. Maria leaves to cherish her memories and love with her four children, twelve grandchildren and a multitude of great-grandchildren, along with lots of family and friends.
Maria loved to dance, watch her Spanish soap operas and spending time with family. She always had a big infectious smile.
Our family would like to thank the extraordinary staff of Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family, Notre Dame Hospice and her devoted caretaker, Sandra Nixon. Their kindness and caring was very loving and comforting during Maria’s illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Saturday, January 13, 2018, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM.
