Joanne Mary Escarra LeBlanc, loving and devoted wife of Clyde Joseph Hoâ LeBlanc, died June 25, 2017, peacefully at home. She was 89. Joanne was the mother of 15 children. She is survived by her husband of 72 years and her children: Fr. Clyde Joseph Hoâ LeBlanc Jr., S.J., Suzanne LeBlanc Lemaitre (Justin), Richard Thomas Hoâ LeBlanc (Nancy), Steven John Hoâ LeBlanc (Marilyn) of Cordova, TN, Mark Allan Hoâ LeBlanc (Barbara), Robert Arthur Hoâ LeBlanc (Penny) of Houma, LA, Jeanne LeBlanc Williams (Conrad “Duke”), Dianne LeBlanc Dunham (Michael), Adrianne Marie Hoâ LeBlanc, John Michael Hoâ LeBlanc of Douglasville, GA, Thomas Shaw Hoâ LeBlanc (Maria), Marianne LeBlanc David (Salem) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Julianne Marie Hoâ LeBlanc, 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by two sons Roger Pierre Hoâ LeBlanc and Marion Hoâ LeBlanc, her parents, Peter Walter Escarra and Mary Ann "Anna" Casse Escarra; a sister, Dorothy Ann Escarra; and two brothers, Peter Walter Escarra, Jr., and John Thomas "Jack" Escarra.

She was a life-long resident of New Orleans, growing up in Mid City. She attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Elementary and High School on Canal Street.  Joanne was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus, before moving in 1959 to Mater Dolorosa Parish.

Joanne was a beautiful lady. "Gyn" dearly loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook.  She loved to sew, cross stitch, knit and quilt. Joanne never met a stranger and was a friend to all.  She was always calm in joy and in sorrow. She was a gentle, kind, and special person, who will be missed by all who loved her.

Joanne was a Lady of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, a member of the Theresians, Children of Mary, and St. Michael Special School Ladies Guild.  Joanne also served on the committee for the St. Michael’s Chef’s Charity for Children.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass of Christian burial at Mater Dolorosa Church, 1230 S. Carrolton Avenue, New Orleans on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
