Recently Greenwood Funeral Home had the privilege of conducting the funeral service for Senator Samuel “Sammy Nunez". The long time senator and former president of the Louisiana senate passed away on January 15, 2012. Services were held at St. Louis Cathedral. Archbishop Gregory Aymond presided at the funeral mass. Before the mass U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu read letters from President Obama and President Clinton. Former governor of Louisiana Edwin W. Edwards gave the Eulogy.  The procession to St. Bernard Memorial Gardens in Chalmette was escorted by police from several jurisdictions including the state police. The route passed by Nunez Community College named after Senator Nunez.
