Bereavement Ministries Can Provide Support
This past year I have become involved with a very special group in my parish. I have been attending the monthly meeting of the bereavement ministry. They get together to listen to speakers and more importantly to share with each other their struggles and successes in the grieving process. The group ranges from very young to very old. Each has a unique story to tell. Everyone is given the opportunity to share but no one is compelled to do so. It is a safe and comfortable environment in which to get support as well as information on grief. Some have nothing to say until the meeting is over and the fellowship begins. Their being present with each other is the most important part of the experience. I encourage everyone that has lost a loved one to consider joining such a group. Many churches and other organizations have established similar gatherings. You may go to just a couple of meetings or may find yourself returning for a long time. It all depends on your grief journey. Some individuals in my group have been coming for a number of years while others stay just a short time. It is just good to know that there is someplace to go where you meet people that understand and can support you at a difficult time.
